Ten Degrees Too Early

November 13, 2014

Winter came a month early. I enjoy the blanket of sparkling white and added challenge of biking a slippery path. It sure would have been great to rake the leaves up first, though. Oh well. The fiery fog and glowing hoar frost are beautiful just the same.

I am always excited to ride in the first snow but wasn’t expecting it for another month.

I told the kids not to expect a snow day. I was wrong.

Bike paths are quick to disappear when it snows. I’ve transitioned to slower sidewalk riding.

Skiers made a mess of my trail. Rude. Almost impossible to ride now.

Instead of the usual quick melt we’ve gone straight to a deep freeze, keeping our record November snowfall around a bit longer.

I have to wade through snow in dress shoes for a backlit frost picture so you’d better love it.

“I need to prove I’m not the only crazy one,” I say as he passes.

“These conditions are terrible,” he answers.

“Oh, but it’s beautiful,” I call after him.
